Leonard H. Turner was born on Sept. 27, 1827 according to most records although his death certificate say 1826, his obituary 1827, and his tombstone 1828. He outlived most of his family so it was up to the grandchildren to suggest a birth year at the time he died.

He was the son of Robert Turner b. July 16, 1795 in Jefferson County, Tennessee and died Aug 2, 1892 in Warren County, Ohio age the age of 97. His mother was Christine Hagler.

Leonard married Leah Jane Thomas in Greene County Ohio on June 6, 1852. They purchased land in 1855, recorded it in 1857, and then built a brick farm house in Silver Creek Township in 1870 that is still lived in by a descendant. He was a farmer. Leah and Leonard only had one child, Peninah Jane. She and her husband, Ed Jones, lived next to her parents after they married in what was described as a log house. At some point they or some of the children may have lived in the parent's home. The four-bedroom house was probably full with the four adults and nine children! The large Jones family moved away about 1896.

After his daughter and wife died, Leonard remarried in 1907 to his wife's sister Elizabeth Thomas Harness. He also outlived her. When he died he had 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren living. His oldest granddaughter, Clara and her husband, served as his guardian the last year of his life. His assets were divided among his seven living grandchildren.

His stone reads Turner on one side and Jones on the other. He is buried with his wife Leah, daughter Peninah Jane and her husband Ed Jones. Two of his grandchildren, Paul and Oscar are also buried with him.
