Harry William Layne Sr., 83, of Pocatalico passed away early Monday morning, Oct. 30, 2006, in Stow, Ohio, after a long illness.

Mr. Layne was retired from Union Carbide Corporation with 27 years of service. He was a decorated World War II Army veteran, a member of Walker Independent Missionary Baptist Church, Tuppers Creek, and a lifelong resident of Kanawha County.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Layne, in 2003.

Surviving him are sons and their wives, Harry W. and Meta Layne Jr. of Chesapeake Beach, Md., Michael R. and Patti Layne of Sugarland, Texas, Lonnie "Joe" Layne of Pocatalico, Terry L. and Karen Layne of Winfield and Kenny L. Layne of Ohio; daughters and their husbands, Connie M. and Gary Boylen of Stow, Ohio, and Margie L. and Alex Gumowski of South Charleston; brother and his wife, Gilbert and Mary Lou Layne of Tuppers Creek; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
