Dr. William Edgardo Agrait, 83, formerly of Waycross, died Sunday evening (Oct. 22, 2006) at his residence in McDonough.

He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to the late Mario E. Agrait Quinoes and Mercedes Garcia Ayabarrena. He served as a sergeant during World War II in the United States Army. He later graduated from the University of Puerto Rico's School of Medicine, where he was elected president of his class. During his time at the University of Puerto Rico, he became a proud lifetime member of Alpha Beta Chi fraternity. Dr. Agrait established his family medical practice in Bronx, N.Y. While working there, he served the community's medical needs and the community's development. His charitable acts were evident in his daily endeavors. Dr. grait specialized in radiology and was a member of the Spanish American Medical Society. He retired to Waycross with his wife and youngest daughter in 1986. Dr. Agrait attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He and his wife lived at the Okefenokee Golf and Country Club for 20 years.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mario Alfonso Agrait Garcia.

Survivors include his wife, Angeles H. Agrait, of McDonough, his youngest daughter, Agnes Lee Thrift (husband Wayne A. Thrift Jr.), of McDonough. From his previous marriage to Irma M. Comas, his surviving children are Edgardo A. Agrait Comas (wife Patricia Carter); William E. Agrait Comas; Irma M. Rutkowski-Agrait (husband Christopher Rutkowski); and Maritza Agrait Comas. Dr. Agrait is also survived by five grandchildren, Brian P. Bush (wife Angela Bush); Anthony Patrick Agrait, Mercedes Rose Agrait, William Layne Thrift and Cayla Dayne Thrift; and two great-grandchildren Hunter William Bush and Alyssa Marie Bush. Dr. Agrait's wishes were to be laid to rest in his native island of Puerto Rico. A funeral will be held at Ehret Funeral Home in San Juan, Puerto Rico. All local arrangements are with Miles-Odum Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 409410, Atlanta, Ga. 30384-9410; St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2011 Darling Ave., Waycross, Ga. 31501; or to a favorite charity.
