Claude Wilbert (Bill) Jones, 82, Mission Hills, KS, passed away at home on Sunday, December 21, 2003. C.W. was born October 20, 1921, close to Murdock, KS. On September 15, 1946, he married Helen Florine Johnson of Arkansas City, KS, and they moved to Kansas City. Mr. Jones natural talent for business led him to fill the post World War II need for homes and develop and build such residential subdivisions as Mooreland Heights, Salisbury Hills, Kentucky Hills, and in 1960, he purchased the Glendale Farm in Independence, MO , and developed and built Glendale Apartments. He remained active in all of Independence civic movements for several decades. In 1961, he diversified his interests and purchased the Chrisman Sawyer Bank in Independence, where he remained President and CEO until the bank sold in 1990. Mr. Jones, being a successful entrepreneur, was an active member of such organizations as the National Association of Home Builders, Independence Chamber of Commerce, Independence Builders Association, Young Presidents Organization at the age of 32, Sertoma Club, Board of American Red Cross, Honorary Board of Governors of the Baptist Hospital, National Builders Economic Council, and a member of the US Navy, and a member of Indian Hills Country Club.

His family will always remember him not only as a tremendous leader, but as a very generous man as well, giving extensively to the Boys Club, Junior Achievement and to the Leawood Baptist Church, where he was a founding member.

Visitation will be held at the Leawood Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 27, with a service at 11 a.m. A private graveside service will be at Mt . Moriah Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Leawood Baptist Church or charity of your choice.
