Sandra Lee Bentler, 47, of Bonaparte, Iowa, passed away on October 14, 2006 at her home.

Born December 5, 1958 in Fort Madison, Iowa, she was the daughter of Eusebio (Abie) and Julia Villegas Mendez. On July 18, 1984 in Colorado, she married Michael J. Bentler.

Survivors include one son Shawn Bentler of Quincy, Illinois, her parents Eusebio and Julia Mendez, three sisters Stella (Steve) Etka of Fort Madison, Mary (John) Carson of West Point, and Christina (Mike) Wilson of Fort Madison, two brothers Mario (Phyllis) Mendez of Fort Madison and Martin Mendez of Indianapolis, Indiana, two granddaughters Chloe & Avaley, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great–nieces and nephews. Sandra and her husband, Mike were AFS parents to Felicitas Grabner from Austria.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Vicente and Maria Mendez.

Sandra graduated from Fort Madison High School. She worked at the Fort Madison Can Company and as an assistant manager for Hardees during high school. Sandra and Mike owned and operated Mt. Hamill Lumber and Elevator, Mt. Pleasant Lumber and Donnellson Elevator. She loved the river and boating. Sandra was a world traveler and loved being outdoors working on her home and entertaining family and friends at her home. She was a very loving wife, mother and sister who was very active in her community and in the Harmony Schools. Sandra was a very active member in the Harmony Athletic Boosters and the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington. She will be greatly missed and always loved by family, friends and the surrounding communities.
