The victims were discovered shorly before 8 a.m. Friday just off the southbound lanes of the turnpike, about three miles south of the Midway Road overpass. Each had been shot several times, authorities said.
Yessica Escobedo was found holding her two children. Jose Escobedo was found face-down just in front of his family.
The victims had made no attempt to flee or fight back and were kneeling or lying on the ground when they were shot, Mascara said, adding that the two boys were apparently deliberately targeted, not accidental victims.
