He was born in Frankfort, Clinton County, Indiana, on July 1, 1904, a son of the late Oscar Samuel and Ella Denison Baird. He was their youngest son.
Mr. Baird graduated from Purdue University in 1933 and worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 31 years. He retired from General Electric in 1969 and moved to Shippensburg in 1982. He had been an amateur ham radio operator since 1931 and his call letters wree W9GZV.
He was of the Prostant faith.
Mr. Baird and his wife, Bethel Brooke Baird, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on January 8.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Shippensburg University Professor, Merton D. Baird of Shippensburg; one daughter, Lois Baird Bordner of Old Lyme, Connecticut; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Baird was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will be held in the Bunnell Cemetery, Frankfort, Indiana, Sunday, February 1, 1998, at 2:30 p.m.
Ther will be no viewing or visitation. The Goodwin Funeral Home, Frankfort, Indiana, is in charge of arrangements.
The Fogelsanger-Bricker Fuenral Home, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, is in charge of local arrangements.
