After several months of failing health, B. R. Scoggins, 79, died Thursday at 11;30 a.m., at his son Jimmie Lee Scoggins home at 335 North Denver Street, Jackson, Mississippi, Hinds County.
He married Rose Anna Parkerson May 8, 1898 in Choctaw Co. at French Camp.
He lived many years at French Camp in Choctaw Co. but moved here, around 1949, to be with his sons. He formerly was a planter at French Camp. He was a big man 6'-3".
He is survived by his wife, Rose Anna Scoggins; four sons, Jimmie Lee Scoggins of Jackson, Burlon "Slim" Daniel Scoggins of Jackson, Grady Loving Scoggins of French Camp, and Elzie "Mutt" Levi Scoggins of Jackson; a daughter, Mrs. C.E. Ray of
Weir, Mississippi; 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, with one almost due in two months.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Bessie Hazel Scoggins (b. 5-20-1900 d. 3-29-1901), from diphtheria. and
a sister,Ida Estell Scoggins Box (b.3-19-1902 and d.8-29-1924),married Homer Box (b. 8-19-1911 d.6-9-1950),on 8-23-1923. She died from allergic reactions from anesthesia at a dentist. Buried at Crape Creek Cemetery in Choctaw Co. MS.
The Winona Funeral Home will be in charge of the services and the body was taken to Winona, Thursday, to lie in state, until Friday at 2 p.m., at which time the funeral will be conducted at the Presbyterian church by the Rev. Patterson, with burial in the Potts Camp Cemetery in French Camp, Mississippi.
I think Benny's siblings were; Levi Mooreman Scoggins (b.6-9-1882 d.4-28-1951)and married Kate Scarburrough on 5-5-1902 in Attala Co. Mississippi; Robert D. Scoggins (b. in Georgia?); James Benson Scoggins and Anna Scoggins, but not sure of anyone.
