George was born in Hartsville, Darlington Co., SC. On the 1880 Federal Census, he was listed as 4 years old. He and his mother, Mary Ann Gainey, were living with Mary's parents, Duncan and Ann Ganey, in Chesterfield Co. George married Viola Henderson about 1911. Viola was a widow with two children, Rufus and Ella Mae Johnson. The new family moved to Congaree, Richland Co., SC for a few years. By 1920, they were living in Carolina, Covington Co., AL. About 1930, the family moved to Okaloosa Co., FL.
George and Viola had eight children, including my father, Jessie. My favorite memory of my grandparents was sitting on the front porch at their home on Lincoln St. and enjoying the love and laughter of our family time together.
