John G Sipe, 52, Powell Ranger Station, Idaho, died Monday of natural causes in a Missoula hospital.

He was born at Kalispell November 5, 1927, the son of Jesse and Alma Sipe. He attended the Lost Prairie School and moved with his family to St Ignatius in 1936 where he graduated from high school.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and served until 1948. Following his discharge he attended Montana State University in Bozeman until 1950 at which time he re-entered the Navy, serving during the Korean War until 1951. At that time he went to work for the Bureau of Public Roads until 1962 when he was transferred to the US Forest Service.

He had been stationed at Powell Ranger Station since 1969 as a civil engineer technician, until his recent retirement due to illness after 32 years of government service.

He married Clara King at Polson Sept 11 1976. He was a member of the Methodist Church at St Ignatius and a life member of the Navy Air Force Association.

Survivors include his wife, Clara, Powell Ranger Station; his mother, St. Ignatius; a sister, Dixie Johnson, Denver; and two nieces.

Burial will be in the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery in Ronan.
