He and his brother, Alonzo R. Ellsworth, came to Tolar, Hood Co., TX, as workers on the railroad.
He married Minnie Maude Miller, daughter of L.C. and Annie Miller of Tolar, in 1899. Alfred and Minnie had one son, Judson, or "Brownie," who was born July 28, 1901.
Alfred contracted TB, was ill for some time, and died January 22, 1906, in Tolar.
Alonzo felt it his duty to take care of his brother's wife and young son, so he and Minnie Maude married.
Judson "Brownie" is buried in Tolar City Cemetery with is wife, Sarah Reece Ellsworth and her relatives
