The Boeing 747 exploded 12 minutes after takeoff from John F. Kennedy International Airport. It was a scheduled international passenger flight to Rome, with a stopover in Paris.
All 230 people on board died in the crash.

She was among a group of students from the Montoursville High School French Club who were going on a field trip to Paris. As well as the French club she was also active in the school choir, as well as her choir at church. She was also a cheerleader and enjoyed swimming.
