HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- Ellis Barkley Aldridge, 85, of 310 S. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born June 16, 1917, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Henry and Laura Metz Aldridge.

Retired since 1979, he worked for Columbia Gas, Hagerstown.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army.

He was a life member of AMVETS Post 10, William D. Byron Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1936 and Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, all in Hagerstown.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Aldridge, surviving are two grandsons, Raymond Hare Jr. of Hagerstown and Dennis Hare of Falling Waters, W.Va.; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Boulevard. The Rev. Loyal H. Vanderver will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends one-half hour before the service in the funeral home.
