Prince. Bernadotte Dynasty. Duke of Ostrogothland. Son of Prince Carl and Princess Ingeborg. To distinguish him from his father, he was widely known as Carl Junior. Since he married non-royally in 1937, he was then created Prince Carl Bernadotte in the nobility of Belgium by his brother-in-law King Leoplod III of Belgium, with the right to a comital title for his descendants. He became a businessman. He had one daughter and divorced his wife in 1951. Married again in 1954 and divorced in 1961 without issue. His third and final marriage took place in Morocco in 1978 to Kristine Rivelsrud. He was at the center of the Huseby scandal that occurred in the late 1950s in Sweden amidst a great deal of publicity. He and other suspects had gained the trust of a Florence Stephens, a wealthy elderly heiress of a large estate near Växjö in southern Sweden who claimed to be an extramarital daughter of Carl's grandfather King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway. A complex set of criminal transactions led to the ruin of Stephens and brought Carl and the others to court. He was acquitted, in spite of his full confession, because of no criminal intent. He left Sweden shortly after the trial and spent the rest of his life in Spain, however frequently seen in Norway visiting the royal family there, which descends from one of his sisters.
