Vinita Faye Clevenger Coble Allen, 76, of rural Columbus, died at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg following a lengthy illness.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1929, just outside of Persia, Iowa, to Redmond C. Clevenger and Florence Mae Smith Clevenger Hogue. She lived most of her adult life in the Columbus area, moving from the family farm in Iowa at the age of 13.

She married Donald Ray Coble on Nov. 9, 1946, in Columbus. He preceded her in death in 1973. She later married Henry Alexander Allen on Aug. 23, 1974.

Survivors include her children, James R. Coble of rural Columbus, Donna R. Sill of Webb City, Mo., Ruth M. Hageman of rural Galena, Mo., and April S. Douthit of rural Miami, Okla.; one step-son Patrick Allen; two sisters, Shirley Griffitt of rural Columbus and Erma Thompson of Olathe; two brothers, Retired Commander Redmond Clevenger of South Boston, Mass., and William "Bill" Clevenger of Wellsville; 12 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; two unborn great-grandchildren; one unborn step-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a daughter, Trisha Ann Coble, who died in infancy in 1948; and two sisters, Neva George and Joyce Tyree.

COLUMBUS - Vinita Faye Allen, 76, of rural Columbus, died at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg following a lengthy illness.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1929, just outside of Persia, Iowa, to Redmond C. Clevenger and Florence Mae Smith Clevenger Hogue.

She lived most of her adult life in the Columbus area, moving from the family farm in Iowa at the age of 13.

She married Donald Ray Coble on Nov. 9, 1946, in Columbus. He preceded her in death in 1973.
She later married Henry Alexander Allen on Aug. 23, 1974.

She worked for the Berry Garment Factory for 27 years, where she was a Sergeant of Arms of the Union. She retired after the death of her first husband.

She was a member of the Roseland Pinocle Club, the Clio Club, the Columbus Genealogical Society, the Columbus Library Book Club, and had been a volunteer of the Trinity Hospice. She had also been a member of the Bethlehem Methodist Church of rural Columbus.

She receved the very first GED Diploma issued in Kansas. She then pursued Business and Accounting courses through Pittsburg State University.

When she and Henry retired from farming they built their current home just outside Columbus.

The family will be gathering at Vinita's home at 1305 NE Ave., Columbus.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Simpson Funeral Home of Columbus.
