Grandma was a gentleman farmer, owning vast tracts of land in Grant County, Indiana. A graduate of Indiana University, she taught Latin and Home Ec for 40 years at various schools in northwestern Indiana. She retired from teaching in 1962.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, Native American culture, and cooking. I still dream about her fabulous Sunday dinners, containing the very best of Hoosier farm dishes.

Grandma was proud of her Dutch heritage. She was an 8th generation descendant of Stephen Courtense Van Voorhees, who emigrated to America in 1660.

She married John Joseph Harding in Gary, Lake, Indiana, June 16, 1923. The couple had 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren.
