Mrs. Ida Michels of Fairbury, Neb., died in a local nursing home Friday, Aug. 11, 1961 at the age of 94 years, 4 months and 7 days. During recent years her health had been slowly failing.
Ida Adeline, youngest daughter of Frederich Fandrei and Anna Wilehelmina (sic) Grabel (sic) Fandrei, was born in Swento, Germany, April 4, 1867. She was baptized in the Christian faith in infancy. In 1873, when she was six years old, she came with her parents to LaSalle, Illinois.
On March 21, 1880 she was confirmed in the Evangelical church in LaSalle. In 1881, her family moved to Jefferson county, Neb., where they farmed for many years.
On Jan. 4, 1885 she married Martin Michels, and to them 12 children were born. The couple was engaged in farming near Reynolds, Neb., until Mr. Michels died in 1937.
Mrs. Michels was active for many years in the life of the community and the church, being the last survivor of the charter members of Zion's Evangelical and Reformed church, east of Gladstone.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Carl; four sisters, Augusta Elgert, Emily Traeger, Carolene Bauer and Ottellia Michels; husband, Martin, two sons, Harold and Michel, and one daughter, Marie Kapke.
Surviving are nine children, Frederich Michels of Fairbury, William Michels of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Margaret Jochens of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Anna Starck of Aurora, Colo., Carl Michels of Reynolds, Mrs. Elisa Bell of Wilmette, Ill., John Michels of Englewood, Colo., Walter Michels of Gardma, Calif., and Mrs. Lillian Sullivan of Wichita, Kas.; 31 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday afternoon at Zion's Evangelical and Reformed church east of Gladstone, with Rev. Eugene Walther, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
