A beloved grandmother, wife and mother, Mildred was a daughter of Amos Grant Michael and Anna Maude Buffington Michael of Baxter, Rose Twp., Jefferson County, PA. She grew up on the Michael farm and married Roy H. Carrier of Summerville, Jefferson Co., PA. He sent her postcards with love notes from the front, in France, during WWI. The couple later moved to Mercer County, PA., where she and Roy adopted and raised Mildred's nephew, who was one of three orphaned boys left behind when one of Mildred's brothers died in 1937, two years after his wife. Roy and Mildred had no natural children of their own.
