Jacqueline Rose Ellis was born on June 23, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, to Russell Lane Ellis and Marion Elizabeth Woodworth. She attended Eagle Rock School for Girls, and graduated from Washington High School in 1943. Jackie was an incredibly fast typist, and was once retested three times before being hired by Lockheed, because they thought she had to be cheating to type over 110 wpm (this was before the days of electric typewriters).

In 1968 Jackie owned two car dealerships with her partner Jay Shoopman. It was a very hands on operation, and they often traveled all over the state purchasing and sometimes repossessing vehicles.
When she and Jay parted ways, Jackie began her own business doing bookkeeping and DMV transfers. She was something of a legend among Southern California used car dealers in the 1970's & 1980's, as she was able to do even international transfers of any type of vehicle (once she even finessed a difficult transfer for a $5,000,000 yacht from Saudi Arabia) and was licensed by the DMV to authenticate VIN numbers. At the time of her death, she still owned this business with her longtime friend and business partner, Joanne Dunn.
Jackie passed away in 1992 after being diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen & Patricia.
Her columbarium marker reads "Although the song is ended, the melody lingers on."
