John Anton was the seventh of eleven children (eight sons & three daughters) born to Bernard & Anna (Nathe) Otte.
On 22 July 1918, John enlisted in the US Army to serve during WW-I. After basic training, he was assigned to Company "D" of the 106th Infantry in the 27th Division. He was honorably discharged as a Private on 31 March 1919.
On 14 September 1920, John married Katherine Hinnenkamp in Stearns County, MN; he was age 26, she was 27. Katherine was the daughter of Henry & Elizabeth Hinnenkamp.
