Israel was my 3rd Great-Grandfather.
His family had a marker put up in this cemetery next to the rest of Irael's relatives. On the headstone it states that he was buried in Mt. Vernon, IN. From what we researched he is actually buried in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Clinton, Putnam Co., IN. We thought we should show both locations for him.
Israel was the son of John BUTLER (1775-1820) and Elizabeth SMITH (abt 1786-aft 1850). We believe he was married three times. His first wife was Dorcas "Dodie" BUTLER (1801-bef 1827) and was his first cousin. Dorcas' father was Ignatious Butler, Israel's father's brother. Dorcas and Israel were married on October 6th, 1818 in Bath Co., KY.
They had three children together:
Elizabeth Butler Mack (1819)
Ignatious Butler (1821-aft 1900)
Basil Butler (1825)
After Dodie's death he married Elizabeth Butler (not sure of the relation here). They were married on Feb. 3, 1827, in Greenup Co., KY. We don't believe they had children together.
His third marriage was to Rebeca (we don't know her maiden name).
They had ten children together:
Sarrah Butler Stark (bef 1828)
John O. Butler (1827)
Thomas (1830-1915)
Israel Butler, Jr. (1833-1918)
Nathan Butler (1835)
Denbo Butler (1838)
Nancy Butler Ragle (1839)
