9:40 PM at Mary E. Bartz Hospice Center, in Valparaiso, IN. She is survived by sons, Claus (Karen) Ackermann of Portage, IN, Michael (Lisa) Ackermann of Valparaiso, IN, and Mark Ackermann of Florida, daughters: Ruth Altomere of Merrillville, IN, and Sonya (Delbert) Peters of Hobart, IN,
sisters: Lotte Hell, Waltraute Martin, Erna Schwinn, all of Germany, seven grandchildren: Ashley & Austin Ackermann
of Valparaiso, IN, John Puza of Merrillville, IN, Stephanie Peek of Colorado, David Altomere of Merrillville, IN, Jennifer and Jessica Peters, of Hobart, IN.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Emil and Maria Elizabeth (Morritz) Harmel, her husband Juergen H. Ackermann , whom she married in 1946 in Varel, Germany.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 28, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jerry Moe, officiating. Interment at McCool Cemetery, Portage, IN.
Visitation will be Friday, April 28, 2000 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 6795 Broadway, Merrillville, IN. Family suggests memorials to Mary E. Bartz Hospice Center, 501 Marquette St, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
Mrs. Ackermann was born on January 13, 1921 in Fishtal, Germany. She has been an area resident since 1952, retired from Merrillville School System, she was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, German American Saxon Club, and Former 4-H Leader of Merri/Maids.
