Born in Ernestown, Ontario, John was the first child of Conrad Huffman and his wife Jane Shibley. He married Lavina Fralick in 1825 and originally setted in her home town of Fredericksburgh. Later they moved with their children to the Belleville area and settled in Sidney township. As a resident of the town of Frankford, he held the office of town treasurer and was a commisioner for the 1871 census. He was the father of Jane Maria, David John Smith, Samantha, Alfred F, James Conrad, Charles Willard, Elmira Lydia, and Clarence R. He died in Frankford, Ontario.
