Sweetwater Gunsmith Dies

Sweetwater, Jan. 8 - Charlie D. Stracener, 59, lock and gunsmith who had lived in Sweetwater since 1914, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday at his home, 310 West Arkansas St. of a heart attack.

He was born Sept. 3, 1895, at New Hope, Ark. He was married to Estelle Best in 1915 at Blackwell.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Cecil and Bernard Stracener, both of Sweetwater, and Glenn Stracener of Glendale, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Eldon Browning and Mrs. Leslie Smith, both of Sweetwater; a half-brother, W. O. Smith of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Jim and Hester Stracener, both of Brownwood; one sister, Mrs. Will Reed of New Hope, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Highland Heights Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Travis L. Darby, pastor of the church, Paul Foutz, minister of the Lamar St. Church of Christ, and the Rev. A. L. Patterson, pastor of Fundamental Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery under direction of Patterson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be A. J. Smith, Oran Browning, Walter Bennett, M. V. Brantley, Leo Nunn and P. N. Nuckols.
