Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Rita Torres Abrigo Gonzales, 99, of Sweetwater, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwa officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at McCoy Chapel of Memories read by Mary Ann and Joe Palafox.
Gonzales died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 20, 1912 in Sweetwater, Texas. She married Jose Gonzales in 1933 in Sweetwater. Jose died on March 2, 1975. She then married Trino Abrigo in 1977. Trino later died in 1984. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Guadalupanas. She was a life long resident of Sweetwater. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Casiano Gonzales of Lubbock and Cruz Gonzales, Sr. and wife Nelda of Arlington, Texas; three daughters, Joise Palafox and husband Joe, Sr. of Grand Prairie, Minnie Gonzales of Sweetwater and Mary Castro and husband Angel, Sr. of Sweetwater; two brothers, Leonard Torres of Sweetwater and Gregorio Torres of Sweetwater; three sisters, Juanita Vasques of Sweetwater, Victoria Abalos of Sweetwater and Pat Quirino of Arlington, Texas; 21 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters; three brothers; her parents; and both husbands, Jose Gonzales in 1975 and Trino Abrigo in 1984.
Pallbearers will be Angel Castro III, Elias Castro, Ricky Castro, Daniel Gonzales, Nickolas Carney and Jason Castro.
