Paul Leonard Abney, Jr., 70, of Crossett died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born November 2, 1933, in Hugo, OK, to Paul Leonard, Sr., and Orpha Paslay Abney, he served in the U. S. Army with a tour in Germany from 1956 to 1958 and then served in the Army Reserves for four years. He was a painting contractor for fifty years and enjoyed the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Bobbie Abney of Crossett; two sons, Tim Abney and wife Pam of Crossett and Jon Abney and wife Dana of Roanoke, VA; one daughter, Paula Beard of El Dorado; two sisters, Earline Hodges of Nacogdoches, TX, and Nancy Duncan of Texarkana, TX; five grandchildren, Cassie Reed and husband Jason, and Jonathon Buck Oldham of El Dorado, and Ryan, Blake and Jennifer Abney of Crossett; and two great-grandchildren, Haley and Cody Reed of El Dorado.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Jerry Grant officiating. Pallbearers were Cecil Streeter, Ron Berryman, Terry Upshaw, Todd Grubbs, Buford Brown and Sammy Burgess. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
