Cyrus Lyens Hyde is the son of Stephen A. Hyde and Rebecca (Eggleston) Hyde. The family moved west from Ohio, stopping briefly in Van Buren and Lee counties in Iowa. About 1854 they relocated to Scotland County, Missouri, where they remained. As an original settler, his father Stephen had accumulated several hundred acres of land, so it is said he gave each of his children 100 acres. On November 22, 1855, Cyrus married Luvina G. Sayer(s) in Memphis, Jefferson Township, Scotland County, Missouri. They had a family of seven children: Sarah, Nora, Celestia, Donna Lovina, Emma V., Roscoe Cyrus, and Ella V. After Luvina's death in 1875, Cyrus married Susan M. Kuntz, daughter of George and Louisa Kuntz, on February 5, 1878. They had one daughter, Violet Augusta "Gussie A" Hyde. Cyrus fought in the Civil War in the Union Army, serving in Company I of the 38th Regiment Missouri Infantry. The regiment did scout duty and operated against guerrillas in several Missouri counties. He died of Bright's disease at the age of 64.
