US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1854 to 1855 as a representative from the Washington Territory. He spent his early years in Canfield, Ohio before moving to Detroit to study law. He was admitted to the Michigan State Bar Association in 1830. Prior to his election to Congress he served as a prosecuting attorney and member of the Michigan Territorial legislature. He served as an associate of the Oregon Territorial Supreme Court from 1850 to 1852 prior to the separation of Oregon and Washington territories. Following defeat for re-election to Congress in 1854 he served as a regent at the University of Washington in Seattle and was actively involved in the Puget Sound and Columbia River Railroad project during the 1860s.
