Amanda Elizabeth Barker is the daughter of Lewis Bions and Huldah (Bates) Barker. She moved to northeastern Missouri with her parents when she was about four years old. On September 21, 1865, she married John Gideon McDaniel in Scotland County, Missouri. Settling in the western part of the county, they raised a family of fourteen children, including a set of twins. They moved briefly to Nebraska in October 1896, but returned to Scotland County, Missouri, before 1900, spending the rest of their lives there farming in Vest Township.
