Sunday morning at seven o'clock William Belknap Suits, a veteran of the war of the rebellion, died quite unexpectedly at his home in this city after a brief illness, and his remains were buried yesterday in Fremont cemetery, eight miles north of town, with G.A.R. honors. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Wright at the Christian church yesterday at ten o'clock. Mr. Suits was born in Greenup county, Kentucky, August 22, 1837, and was therefore two months and one day past sixty-one years old at his death. At the age of thirteen years he moved to Pennsylvania and later to Wisconsin where he was married to Charlotte Abernathy in 1849. He came with his family to Iowa from Wisconsin, and located in Mills county. In 1863 he enlisted in Company D, Fifteenth Iowa, marching to the sea with Sherman and serving his country bravely until the regiment mustered out. Twenty years ago he united with the Christian church in Osceola, and was an active member of the Grand Army post here. He was the father of eight children, four of whom with his wife survive him. His family and comrades and many other friends mourn his departure.
