ULYSSES, Kan.—Rosary for LaVern J. Mader was Sunday, April 21, 2002, at 7 p.m. at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ulysses. Funeral mass was Monday, April 22, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the church, with Rev. Louis Hoang and Rev. Gilbert Herman presiding. Graveside and burial was at 2 p.m. at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mader, 66, of Ulysses, Kan., died April 19, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. He was born Aug. 8, 1935, at Offerle, Kan., the son of Vernon and Mary (Konrade) Mader. A Ulysses resident since 1962, he was a welder at Ulysses Irrigation and T-L Irrigation in Ulysses and retired in 1997.

He was a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses and enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.

On Dec. 27, 1955, he married Ruth Delores Ratzlaff at Garden City, Kan. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, three daughters, two brothers, two sisters, 20 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tim Mader; one sister, Janet Peterson; and two grandchildren.
