Husband of Elizabeth Almira Giles. Edward H. Grimes was a soldier in the Federal Army, during the war of 1861. He entered the service August 12, 1861, in Company H, 36th Ohio Infantry, for three years, and was engaged in the battles of Lewisburg, Rappahannock, South Mountain, Antietam, Fort Donelson, Hoovers Gap, Chickamauga, Winchester, Peach Creek, Mission Ridge, and numerous smaller engagements. At Mission Ridge he was severely wounded, a ball striking his knapsack and breaking his left shoulder, and giving him internal injuries. He was promoted from private to corporal, then to sergeant, receiving discharge March 17, 1865.
He and Almira had twelve children
