The British liner AUTOMEDON Ss, Capt. W. B. Ewan, was intercepted and sunk by the German raider Atlantis in the Indian Ocean, midway between Ceylon and the Nicobar Islands, on November 11th, 1940. Capt. Ewan, six of the crew and one gunner were killed.
