Frances of 6200 Strawfield Dr., died at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
She was born the daughter of the late John W. Smith and Mary Parker Smith. She was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Trimbath, and a brother, John W. Smith.
Surviving is one son, Robert Elkins Smith and wife Sylvia Savage Smith, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren, Rebecca S. Zoltek (John M. Jr.) of Raleigh, NC, and R. Earl Smith of Marion, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Q. Alexander and Olivia M. Zoltek; and several nieces and nephews. She was known as "Granny Hodges" to her extended family which includes, among others, Mrs. Phyllis S. Morgan, her sons and their families; William and Monika Savage, their sons and their families; Ms. Connie S. Fussell/Evans and her sons, from whom she received and returned much love.
She was a charter member of the Windermere Presbyterian Church of Wilmington. During World War II she was employed at the Wilmington Shipyard, and for many years, prior to her retirement, she was associated with Zora's Seafood Market.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen, Kenneth, and Mark Morgan; Patrick and Michael Savage; and Rhett and Jacob Fussell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Windermere Presbyterian Church Library Fund, 104 Windemere Rd., Wilmington, NC 28405, and/or Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter, 715-A Wellington Ave., Wilmington, N.C. 28401 to whom we will be eternally grateful for their loving care.
