CREVE COEUR ~ Charlene Bagby, 86, of the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka, passed away at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She was formerly of 809 South Stewart Street in Creve Coeur.

Born February 18, 1919 in Cairo to Charles Almont, Sr. and Ada Catherine Hayden Cowan, she married Carroll L. Burnham on December 13, 1938 in Iowa. She later married John Robert Bagby on May 20, 1958 in Havana. He died on January 30, 1998 in Creve Coeur. She also was preceded in death by four sisters, Ada Conrady, Urith (Wood) Gregory, Nita Morse and Ruby Goeken and one brother, Charles A. Cowan, Jr.

Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Arlene Burnham of Springfield, Carol Ann (Milton) Johnson of Lincoln and Pamela Sue Winter of Pekin; three sons, Robert Charles "Butch" (Diane) Burnham of Metamora, John Robert Bagby, Jr. of East Peoria and James Richard (Debra) Bagby of Erwin, North Carolina; one step-daughter, Vickie Lee Bagby of Mason City; nine grandchildren, Lisa Anne Johnson, Chad Eric Burnham, both of Lincoln, Beth Ann (Todd) Faulkner, Carrie Lynn Johnson, both of Springfield, Wayne Edward Johnson of Hartsburg, Kathern Elizabeth (Lynwood) Dillman of Decatur, Zachary Harrison Bagby, Evan Robert Bagby, Noah Joseph Bagby, all of Erwin, North Carolina; nine great-grandchildren, Megan and Morgan Mayfield of Springfield, Chelsea, Lori, Johnathon, Holly and Brandi Johnson, all of Hartsburg, Matthew Faulkner and Todd Faulkner, Jr., both of Springfield; several nieces and nephews and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She also is survived by several cousins, including Doris Fahnders of Pekin and a longtime friend, Jacquey (Clifton) Ferrell of Moultrie, Georgia.

Charlene was a homemaker. She also served as a playground supervisor at Gerber School for Creve Coeur School District #76. In earlier years, she worked at Fink's Photo and Kirby's in Mason City.

She was a former member of the Creve Coeur Wesleyan Church, where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible school and Christian Youth Crusaders.

She was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2005. The Rev. R. Raymond Anderson, Rev. Fred Doughty and Rev. Dick Garber will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
