" On July 9th, 1917, the British steamer SS CALLIOPE departed from Sevilla, Spain
to Newport, Montreal with a cargo of ore.
On July 12th, 1917, the CALLIOPE was sunk by the German submarine
U-155 (Karl Meusel), some 150 miles north of Madeira.
Sunk with all 28 hands and initially posted as missing."
!! The CWGC database lists the Dates of Death as 9 July 1917 - presumably this was when the vessel was last sighted.
