One of 36 members of the crew who were killed on August 20, 1940 when the refrigerated cargo vessel S.S. Turakina, on route from Britain to Wellington, New Zealand via Sydney, Australia, was about 265 NM NW of Cape Farewell, New Zealand and attacked by the German armed merchant cruiser Orion with gunfire from around 17:00 hours. The Turakina fought back but by about 19:30 its was ablaze and then sunk by torpedoes.

Son of John and Elizabeth Brennan; stepson of Mrs. M. Walsh, of Liverpool. Died aged 27 years.
