Feb. 26, 1874

A Fatal Accident occurred at Pella last Thursday afternoon. Herbert Benning [sic], aged about 15 years, employed in the Wagon Factory of Schubring and Fosdick, in attempting to put a belt upon a pulley became entangled in the belt, was drawn up and whirled rapidly around the shaft above and beaten to death instantly by striking against the joists of the upper floor. The Blade says his neck, one arm and one leg were broken, and he was otherwise terribly bruised an mangled. The coroner's jury rendered a verdict reciting the facts, stating that the accident was wholly caused by the carelessness of the deceased, and that no one else was in any manner to blame.
