Sam's parents, Carmello and Virginia (Vincenza Franchina) were both born in St. Agata Messina, Sicily, Italy. Sam was the youngest of their four children born and raised in Wallace, Shoshone County, Idaho.

He was a most loving husband of Minnie and proud father to a daughter. I remember him as the quiet man with the best approving grin for all us kids in sports and other events in the Wallace Public Schools. He and Minnie owned a home along the Burke Canyon Road, Wallace, Idaho.
