Nevada Governor, State Surveyor-General. He served two terms as Surveyor-General before being elected Governor in 1895. John Evans Jones was born 5 December 1840 at Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa, Montgomeryshire, Wales the oldest son of Edward Jones and Mary Ellen Evans. The family immigrated to the United States aboard the William Tapscott arriving in New York on 24 June 1856. From there the family traveled to Iowa, where they made their home in Johnson County. He died 10 April 1896 of stomach cancer while serving as Governor the following year.
