Manse Abner, Sr.

Sweetwater - Services for Manse Abner, Sr., 84, of Sweetwater, who died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Rolling Plains Hospital after a lengthy illness, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Mount Rose Baptist Church. The Revs. Fred Nelson, Aubrey Todd, James Carrington and George Blueford will officiate. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by Cate-Spencer Funeral Home.

Born Feb. 5, 1895 in Milam County, he married Costella Hunter on Dec. 15, 1922. They moved to Sweetwater in 1942. He was employed by the T & P Railway for 20 years and operated a barbecue cafe after his retirement. He was a member of Mount Rose Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Manse Abner, Jr. of Dallas; a step-son, John L. Hunter of Houston; a daughter, Georgia M. Goodman of Sweetwater; a brother, James of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Velma Sayles of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Howard Williams, Albert Todd, Robert Sweet, George Blueford, J. D. Davis and Bennie Williams.
