David L Myrick, II, 18, died Saturday, June 1 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, alongside his best friend, Randy Clark. Born in Savannah, David lived in Richmond Hill where he attended high school and was employed in construction. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, David L Myrick and cousin, Chelsey Leigh Myrick. Two Richmond Hill men killed in wreck - Two Richmond Hill men were killed and Savannah man was seriously injured in a single-car wreck late Saturday. David L. Myrick and passenger James Randy Clark, both 18, were killed after a pickup Myrick was driving spun out of control and slammed into a large oak tree off Old Highway 204 about 11 p.m., Chatham County police said. David Thornton, 21, of Savannah was thrown out of the bed of the pickup. He was in serious condition Sunday at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The accident happened on a stretch of road that intersects with Ga. 204 just east of the Morgans' River Bridge, police said. Myrick was driving a 1996 Chevy S10 pickup east on the highway when the pickup spun several times, police said. Myrick and Clark died at the scene. Emergency crews spent several hours using the jaws of life to extricate the bodies from the pickup cab, police said. The Chatham County Police Department's Major Accident Investigations Team is looking into the cause of the accident. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed. Police haven't ruled out the possibility that alcohol was involved.

"The family of the deceased no longer has to carry the stigma of what happened," Leopold said. After leaving a graduation party, Thornton reportedly was speeding east when he came out of a curve, swerved off the road, then tried to return to the road, police said. He steered too abruptly, spun the pickup across the road and over an embankment. The pickup hit a tree on its passenger side. Police haven't ruled out the possibility that alcohol contributed to the crash. Charges are pending a decision by the Chatham County District Attorney's Office.
