Husband of Edna Prosser West. Pettis was kicked by a horse as a young boy, and was blinded. He later went to the N.C. State School for the Blind in Raleigh where he learned trades that made it possible for him to survive and earn his own way in the world. He was the husband of Edna Prosser West. Together they ran a shop on Burlington Rd. where they sold gifts, yard and lawn statuary, and other crafty things.
