John Albin, son of Samuel G. Albin and Sarah Smith, was born 31 December, 1827 in Vermillion County, Indiana. He married 12 December 1847 in Vermillion County to Altruda Hollingsworth, with whom he had two children. John and Altruda are found on the 1850 Federal Census of Vermillion County Indiana, page 108 in Vermillion township. John married second to Sarah Ann Page on the 24th of January 1854 in Vermillion County. They had seven children

John enlisted in Company B, 11th Kansas Cavalry commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Preston B. Plumb on 30 August 1862 and and was Mustered out on 31 August 1865.

John Albin is last found on the 1900 Federal Census of Jackson County, Kansas, Grant township, page 56B. He is buried at the James Crossing Cemetery in Jackson County, Kansas.
