Michael Lamar Mitchum, of Mount Pleasant, departed this life unexpectedly July 13.

He was the son of the late John Troy Mitchum and Margaret Brown Mitchum.

Mike was the Town Planner for the city of Moncks Corner, SC, and attended Trident Technical College and The Citadel.

A loving husband, father and family man, a dedicated worker, a lover of nature and history, Mike was a truly awesome man!

His precious wife loves to tell how Michael would throw the football and watch movies every night with his son Mike, while she prepared the popcorn for "boys night". Michael always preferred sitting on the porch with the heat and the mosquitoes rather than being in the air-conditioned living room as he didn't want to miss a second of the "great outdoors."

Cheryl and Michael were married 18 years, but their relationship began years before their engagement, with a school girl crush she had on him when they lived in the same neighborhood as children. She remembers spying from the bushes, watching the blond-haired high school boy with a motorcycle when she was still in elementary school. Years later, on their very first date, he took her to Charles Towne Landing, and Cheryl, drawn to his gentle and playful manner, said she knew from that night she would marry him.

Michael was the loving husband of Cheryl Phillips Mitchum and surviving, in addition to her, are his precious son, Michael Lamar Mitchum, II, two brothers, John W. Mitchum and his wife, Bonnie, of Mt. Pleasant, and Robert Mitchum and his wife, Donna, of Texas, a sister, Nancy Hills and her husband, Tony, of Jacksonville, FL, a brother-in-law, Stephen Phillips and his wife, Deborah, of NC, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
