Joseph W. Davis was born Jan. 7th 1842 in Ware County, GA. He was the son of James Madison Davis and Rebecca Carter. He married Elizabeth Chancey Davis, Feb. 23rd, 1869 on her 17th birthday. They had 11 children.



Joseph W. Davis enlisted as a Private in Co. A 1st. Regiment, 1st Brigade Georgia State Troops, Oct. 3, 1861. Private Davis mustered out April 18th of 1862. He was further listed as a Private in Co. K, 54th Regiment GA Infantry and completed his service and was detailed out in Macon, towards the end of the war. He walked home from Macon to Little Satilla River near Stagecoach Road, between Offerman and Screven, GA.


Joseph & Betsy are buried at Mill Creek Church Cemetery, Pierce County, GA.
