My great-grandpap, the only one of my great-grandparents who wasn't born in the U.S. He came to America in 1917, under his original name Ján Mormák. When he married Anna Vargovich, his bride temporarily lost her native-born American citizenship, due to the Expatriation Act of 1907. She regained her citizenship after the Cable Act of 1922. They had five children—John, Jr., Paul (who went by Parry), Helen, Anna Marie (who went by Marie), and Margaret
