while conducting research into another person, I encountered the probate records for Deacon David Foster (Essex County Probate Records, vol 336, book 36, pages 182-183). At the very end of his estate inventory, listed beneath a record of "5 bundles of flax," is a line that lists "A Negro boy, Simon by Name."
