Arleta, as everyone called her was born Feb. 18, 1918 in Altus, Oklahoma. When she was young her family moved to Hereford, Texas after losing her father when she was a baby. She grew up to work as a registerd nurse in a nursing home. She would later marry Samuel Haywood Stanford during the Depression Era and raising Sam's son Samuel Ray. Later their union would bring three children into the world. Winifred Eugene, who died 4 days after his birth, James Harold, and Willie Estelle. Samuel would die in 1966 in Bakersfield, CA,Samuel Ray would die in 1978,and Willie would die on May 17, 1994 in Brainerd, Minn. After Willie's death, Arleta would finish raising Willie's only son, Sam Knight, until her death in 1997.
She is survived by a brother, C.E. Lundry of Wichita, KS, a half brother, C.V. Burges of Rockport,Texas, a half sister, Dora Lee Baird of Anchorage, AK. Her son, Jim Stanford of Brainerd, Minn., six grandchildren, Jamie Stanford, Michael Stanford, Jeffrey Stanford, Christine Stanford, Stephanie Stanford, And Samuel Knight.
