He owned a farm east of Lamar, Missouri, and enjoyed taking care of his dairy cattle and farming the land. Hobbies aside from that were fishing and hunting.
He was comfortable spending quiet evenings at home, but he also loved playing cards with Mother and other couples. He taught my brother and me that it's just as important to win well as it is to lose well. He and Mother played board games, card games, ping-pong, and croquet with us to help us learn good sportsmanship.
Daddy was active in the Lamar First Christian Church, and taught adult classes there, as well as holding positions of deacon and elder.
After moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, he worked for Lowrance Electronics for 12 years. He had many friends who joined him on weekends at his place on Tenkiller Lake. He loved taking his grandkids fishing too, and he found more pleasure in helping them catch fish than catching them himself. A generous person, I remember more than one occasion he anonymously helped those in need.
